We Interrupt This Program. . . .

. . . . to inform you there will be a disruption of outfit posts for a short while. Ha, as if there hasn't been an inconsistent lack of them already. But seriously though, my camera's busted. Yeah, I know, what's a fashion blogger to do?? Mike accidentally ran it over on his motorcycle and it's all smashed up. Luckily, I was able to send it to Canon's service center and they'll hopefully be able to put a new body on it, if not- well them I'm screwed. No, if they can't fix it I'll just have to buy another one- and not let Mike touch it. He already broke a really nice lens I had as well. Someone's using a plastic camera from now on. Or a disposable one.

We had an awesome weekend though. Actually, it was the weekend before this previous one. We went to a weekend campout/ride hosted by our friends' local mc shop; let me tell ya, it was one of the most fun weekends I've had in a long time. Lots of bike shops, friends, killer food, etc. It was hot as hell though; I swear I sweated off at least 5 lbs. So worth it though! And on Saturday we had a great ride, then stopped by a lake and everyone cooled off, then hopped back on the bikes and rode to a restaurant/bar, then back to the campsite for another night of debauchery. So much fun! Wish I could've had pictures, but well, see the above for why I don't.

In about two weeks we have another mc event to go to, which I'm super stoked about. This last one I literally didn't  pack until last minute, so I ended up in cutoffs and a tank the whole weekend. But, if I had more time I would've thrown together some better outfits. I mean, you wanna look cool on the motorcycle, right? Haha, doesn't really matter. But if I could, I would have put together something like below:

Miss Selfridge corset bra top / Genuine leather jacket, $3,235 / Balmain low rise pants / Fiorentini + Baker black chunky heels / Punk jewelry / Nelly Accessories ankle bracelet, $23 / Friis & Company plastic ring, $9.23 / Spiked choker necklace / Sunglasses / NARS Cosmetics nail polish

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Born Free

I'm baaaack!! I know, another long, unexplained absence. I swear, there's been so much crap happening this year for some reason. Every time things calm down, the shit hits the fan again, ugh. This time around it was Lia getting a massive ear infection, resulting in numerous (like, 8 at least) swollen lymph nodes all over her head and neck, followed by an allergic reaction to her antibiotics, culminating in a severe body rash. Poor girl was NOT happy. But she's all better now, thankfully. We also just got back from L.A. (ok, that's a lie, been back for about a week now) where we went to attend the Born Free motorcycle show as vendors. I had an awesome time, but it was a long amount of driving, being out in the sun, hotel rooms and we also lost two trailer tires on the way home. But I had a blast!! I was also incredibly drained of energy from lack of sleep and too much sun. The pics below pretty much sum up how I felt- lazy and lethargic. Excuse all the odd faces I'm making, apparently I get loopy in the sun.

Still Alive and Kicking

The Vision Shades- $145 at TNEMRODA

Quickie post here- um, how rad are these shades? I need these, like, NOW. For the past couple months or so I've been wrapped in a 90's/gothic nostalgic haze, resulting in watching My So-Called Life (Rayanne Graff would be the coolest friend to  hang with), The Craft, Jawbreaker, etc. and revisiting my love of dark lipstick and messy dual buns (which I sported, along with pigtails, all throughout high school, sometimes with ribbons and flowers, etc). So these shades would fit in nicely, I think. If only I had an extra $145 to blow. Story of my life.

Okay, so I know you're all wondering where I up and disappeared to, right? Wish I had some crazy story about being kidnapped or something equally entertaining (and less scary, actually), but the sad truth is that I haven't been anywhere. I just needed a break, I guess. Totally unplanned. Long time readers will know that I suffer from depression; well, at random times that depression gets the better of me and I end up in a void and shut out everything around me. That's where I've been- clawing my way out of the black hole I dug myself into. I know that sounds all dark and gloomy, but actually it's not as bad as it sounds, I'm being a bit over dramatic. Basically, I just lost all motivation and got really down. I've had trouble staying motivated and focused for quite some time now- turns out I have ADD, which I suspected and was finally diagnosed with, which makes a lot of sense to me now, looking back. Most people think of hyperactive kids with behavior problems when they hear ADD- and while that can be true- there's also other categories and symptoms involved. There's a lot of information on the web for those who are curious. Anyway, I was put on medication to help my symptoms and after a few days things seemed like they were getting better. But now I'm sick, of all things, which totally ruined our weekend trip to Reno.

So yeah, exciting stuff, right? I'm hoping that when this sickness blows over I'll be back to my normal, hilarious self. I apologize to those whom I haven't responded to  yet on Formpspring/emails, etc. I will get to them, I promise! Now back to bed. . . I really don't even know what I just wrote or if it make sense.

Live to Dye

Untitled #17

Untitled #19

I am completely obsessed with anything dyed lately. Tie dyed, ombre, dip dyed, it's all good. As a result, I've been pulling out anything in my closet that could use a makeover, and simultaneously making over clothing for my store as well. I'm not a patient person, so everything's kind of been an experiment, but that's the fun part, right- never knowing how it's going to turn out? Much like my hair, which unfortunately is fading fast.

It looks like Spring has officially arrived. After a random two days of rain and thunder, the weather channel reports that it'll hit 90 by Friday. Terrific. Anything above 80 and I turn into a sweltering blob of laziness. Very attractive.

ON THE ROAD

It's here! The lookbook I shot with Solestruck, ON THE ROAD, is completed! And it looks amaaazing! I'm near the very end, just a few shots. I have to say, it's somewhat nerve-wracking having someone else you don't known not only take photos of you, but edit them as well. Relinquishing the right to control how your photos look is something I'm usually not comfortable with. I tend to be very self-critical, and of course only post the best or most flattering pictures when doing my posts (as most others do as well), so letting someone else do it and then waiting to see what the results would be was quite a nail-biting experience. Truth be told, I probably would've picked some different shots of myself, but hey, beggars can't be choosers- I'm still super flattered to be included and it was lots of fun. Plus, I still get to pick out a free pair of shoes- and who doesn't like free stuff, am I right?

The video is pretty awesome as well, although I'm not in it, awwww.

Here's the behind the scenes post I did awhile back in case you missed it.

Get In My Closet

Just some things I'm eyeing...."some" being key here. At any given time I could easily name like, 100 items I want . There's just too much good stuff out there. I've been so good lately though at sticking to thrifted /used items, instead of buying brand new. But the temptation is always there....especially since seeing UNIF's newest collection- really? Could they get any better? That flame sweater needs to be mine...as well as the rest of their stuff. Dannijo has an awesome collection of jewelry- way out of my budget, luckily, otherwise I'd be loading up on their site right now. I still and always will have an obsession with leopard and velvet, so what makes better sense than to put the two together? Also I'm on the hunt for the perfect knee high lace up boots; leave it to JC to pretty much always have what I'm looking for. Too expensive for me right now, bleh. Sucks being responsible sometimes, doesn't it?

But... I am super stoked to have scored some knee high SNAKE PRINT vintage Doc Martens. Yes, you read that right. They are awesome!! Well, they'd better be- they're supposed to be here on Wednesday. My patience is officially being tested. I'd post a pic of them, but I want you biting your nails in anticipation along with me. I'm a brat like that.

Aaaannnd I dyed my hair again. Or attempted to. It was supposed to be a gorgeous teal, but came out purple, ironically, since that was the color I was aiming for last time. But most of it just came out brown, boo. Just the tips and some streaks came out bluish-purplish. It's probably the darkest color I've had in awhile- I barely remember the last time I had my natural hair color.

Anyhoo, I've got some Plants vs. Zombies to play, my latest distraction. Anyone play it yet? It's quite addicting and more intense than it appears. Mike and I are trying to make it to level 40, but have only made it to 25. And if you know me, then you know I'm competitive and hate losing. But I only play for my son's sake, wink wink. That's what kids are for- they're your excuse for stepping down a decade or so on the maturity scale. Of course they also make you go up a decade on the age scale at the same time.

Go figure.

ps. yeah, I know my layout's screwed up. I started messing with it but lost interest after while, I'm sorta ADD like that. Bear with me a bit and I'll have it looking better soon...after I kill some zombies.

Behind the Scenes

Sorry for posting so late, I know everyone's curious about the photoshoot. For those who don't know yet, I was asked to be part of the Spring Lookbook for none other than Solestruck, juggernaut of cool shoes! Talk about being flattered....if you haven't heard of them yet (you must be living under a rock) be sure to check them out- they have a HUGE selection of the awesomest (there's that word again) and most unique shoes. They carry Jeffrey Campbell, Matiko, Dolce Vita, Sam Edelman and waaay more, plus they have a rad selection of vintage shoes as well. And they're just awesome. The lookbook is aptly named "ON THE ROAD", and features stops in 6 cities like L.A. and Vegas, and they were nice enough to make a stop in my itty bitty Yuba City (that rhymes!) to snap some shots. Originally, there was a whole concept sent to me for two different looks, but  part of the lookbook's theme was anything goes, and by the time they got to me things were a bit hectic and behind schedule, so we did things on the fly. I was supposed to scout out locations for them, but the night before I had sent a text to Ty telling them where to meet me, and casually mentioned as an afterthought, "It's a motorcycle shop".... well, apparently that was all we needed! They pulled "Whitney", the RV into our parking lot and we shot everything right there! Ty and Anna both showed up in Harley tees, which was awesome. They said they were sorta obsessed with my hair, and Anna asked if she could touch it, which I thought was funny! Mike was stoked because not only were we at the shop, but we also used the Mercury cruiser in some shots, as well as the knucklehead bike, which was pretty awesome! Here's a sneak peak- don't want to give too much away:

Inspire Me

Well, my photoshoot is on Sunday,  so I came up with two inspiration boards based on the information I"ve been given about the two styles I'll be modeling . Can you guess what my looks are? Actually, for all I know I could be way off. Wish me luck- I may have to have a beer beforehand to calm my nerves....

I can't believe Spring is already creeping up on us. Here in Northern California the winter has been sporadic, but mainly warm, so Spring should be an easy transition.

Speaking of Spring, I saw some these above images from the Cardon Spring 2012 show and almost fainted. How amazing are those hand crocheted dresses? The goat fringe ponchos? Everything in the collection is something I'd give my right arm for. Hell, both arms.

Etro is the other show whose collection stood out to me. You know I love prints, so Etro's always been a no-brainer for me. This collection was no exception with the sexy art deco geometric designs and flapper-esque fringe combined with tribal print. and kimono like jackets.

Any collections you liked? There are about a million others I could go on about, but these stood out to me at the moment.

Happy Friday!!

Stop and Smell the Roses

vintage skirtvintage skirt
Isn't this vintage skirt gorgeous? I love the bold vibrant colors! It's not actually a fishtail skirt- after putting it on I realized it didn't look quite right; a simple tuck of the front into my belt made a huge difference. I love vintage more and more each time I find something great. There's just something about finding that awesome vintage piece that isn't like shopping off the racks at a department store or elsewhere. Perhaps because it often takes quite a bit of digging through old musty stuff, that when you find a treasure it's like a reward for all your hard work. Or something like that. If you follow me on Twitter (hint,  hint) then you likely saw my other recent finds- a metallic silver snakeprint kimono and an amaaazing crochet fishnet dress. So excited to show them to you later on! In fact, I've acquired quite a bit of cool vintage stuff to stock my store with- now all I've got to do is get my store off the ground. But that's another story.

Crazy Prints

If there's one thing everyone should be able to figure out about me now, it's that I love prints. Crazy, colorful bold prints, as well as animal prints (leopard and snake). Not only do I love prints, but I love to mix them as well. Not entirely sure how I feel about today's outfit, other than I love the bright colors and of course the leopard print. It was one of those days where I'm lacking inspiration, thus I threw on whatever was closest.

Lounge Mode

I'm beyond utterly exhausted from too many nights with not enough sleep and last night's debauchery.... of eating carrot cake and playing Catch Phrase. It was my MIL's birthday yesterday, so we hung out and played a game and ate lots of food, including a carrot cake I made in a rush. I of course waited til the very last minute to make it and in doing so completely messed up the instructions and after baking, realized I used the wrong measurements as well. Came out a little too dense, but edible enough considering. But it looked pretty! If you follow me on Instagram (beneaththeglass) then you can see what it looked like...kinda like a wedding cake actually.
So anyways, this is my rainy day, too tired to get dressed look. This sweater (that kept sliding down, hence the near wardrobe malfunction) is the hugest thing and has ginormous sleeves and a corset back that constantly comes untied, but I love it for the sheer volume of it. I like big clothing for some reason, the floppier the better. And these pants actually have dragons on them, which I thought was just paisley.

>_<  Zzzzzzzzz........

On my  body: Sweater- Style Nanda

ps. See that streak of purple in my hair? Yeah, that was my latest attempt at getting it..... purple. After two different attempts, I now have my same hair but more vibrant, with random purple bits here and there. My hair looks confused. And it hates me. I exaggerate, though, it's not too too bad. But I'll probably dye over it again soon. Or shave it. Whichever comes first.
