Take Me Down to Chinatown

Well, I am officially at eight months pregnant. For those of you who've said I don't look pregnant, believe me, it's there, I just happen to be good at camouflaging it (notice how I hardly shoot sideways?). Not that I'm not ecstatic to be having a baby (been trying to have a girl for five years now), just self conscious about gaining weight. Pure vanity, I know. It really sunk in that I've gained weight when I tried to put on sweatpants the other night and they wouldn't fit past my ass....c'mon sweatpants, really? They stretch and I still couldn't get them on! Therefore I had an excuse to buy a couple new items that should be on their way soon...like in a month (holiday shipping delays have started, ugh).

But it's finally colder out, which means I get to pull out my winter clothes I've been saving to wear, including this cute little Asian jacket I got at Goodwill. I swear, that place is my home away from home. And yes, I know I shouldn't be wearing such high heels this late in the game, but luckily I have been fortunate not to fall flat on my face, so I figured I'd push my luck.

For my US readers, don't forget to enter my giveaway which ends tomorrow at midnight! Sorry to my international readers, but they'll be more giveaways in the future, so don't fret :)

Rainy Days and Giveaways

I've been waiting forever for the cold and rain to come and I finally got my wish, although I've forgotten that I'll also have to drive in it. Oh well, I'm finally getting to wear some of my cold weather clothing I've been stocking up on, such as this faux leather jacket. Paired with the hat, the top half of my outfit reminds me of a modern day gunslinger, what with the wide collar and hat.

As some of you know, I recently lost my buddy Peanut to a serious virus. Although I still miss him dearly, my son has been asking for another puppy, so say hello to Lucy. She looks tiny, but boy looks are deceiving, as she is quite the porker. And really attached to me already....as in I can't take two steps without her whining for me. She's going to be in for a surprise when the actual baby comes and she's not the center of attention anymore.

Now on to the main reason why you're here... the giveaway. Yeah, I know you all love me blah blah, but I know you guys are really here for the free goodies, right? This giveaway is courtesy of me, actually. My son had a fundraiser at school and being the generous person I am, I've decided to pass on my purchase to you. It is a free 5 month subscription to InStyle Magazine, which means 5 issues, as they publish monthly (although occasionally they come out with special beauty issues, etc). Subscription can take 2-8 weeks to arrive. Sorry, open to US residents only.

The rules of the giveaway are as follows:

1. Must be a follower of this blog (I will check!)
2. Leave ONE comment with your email address so I can contact you if you win.
3. You can gain 1 additional entry each by following me on Twitter, Facebook and/or Bloglovin'. Also gain 1 entry each for retweeting, or reposting on blog or Facebook. If you choose these methods, you must also leave a link with your comment so I can check.
4. That's all! Winner will be chosen at random and has three days to respond or I will choose a new winner.
5. Giveaway ends Friday, October 29, 2010 at 12:00 am Pacific Time.

Seeing Red

I made a resolution that I would absolutely not dye my hair until all the old dye had completely grown out. But being the impatient person I am, who is constantly in need of change, I broke that resolution and once again dyed my once shiny and healthy locks. The obsession started right out of high school, and I have continuously dyed my hair a variety of colors ever since. Combined with blow drying, curling and straightening, my hair is now the texture of straw. Which is probably why I often get asked if I have hair extensions, I take it to mean cheap ones at that. But I just couldn't resist dying it this burgundy shade that glows bright red in the sun. I did it in sections to blend with my black hair for some dimension. I have had several bad experiences with at home dye jobs- and this one was no exception. To get my hair to lighten, I have to first pre-lighten it, then dye over it. In this instance, I had bought two boxes of dye, one lightening, and the other the red color. Well, the store forgot to put my regular dye in the bag, which of course I failed to notice at first. So after bleaching my hair to a hideous brassy orange shade, I then had to go to the store with my head looking like a pumpkin. I went extra early in the morning, because with my luck, I would have run into someone I know. After it was all said and done though, I was pleased with the results. However, my hair takes to dye funny, so it is a little patchy in spots, so I'm continually tossing my hair around....but to others hopefully its coming across as playful and sexy, haha.

Had an extremely hard time getting up on here, and had to jump down...not a good idea when pregnant and in 5" heels.

I found this blazer at Goodwill, and it is now one of my favorite pieces. I love the geometric-aztec print and the oversize fit. I thought my turquoise necklace from H&M gave the outfit a nice pop of color. Now I don't know if it's because of being pregnant and my weight is off balance or what, but I had a difficult time walking in these boots today, almost faceplanted several times. Maybe I need to come to terms with reality and realize that I shouldn't be walking in heels this late in the game. Or maybe I should just stop walking.

Velvet Jungle

It's Friday and payday, so you know what that means.....shopping! Actually it means paying bills. Not as much fun as shopping, I have to say. I sometimes long for the days of adolescence and not having to worry about bills and responsibility....but until I finish my time machine, I suppose I'll have to deal with adulthood.

I decided to wear this thrifted velvet shirt/cardigan. I love the feel of the material and the comfortableness of it. However, I started sweating five minutes after being outside, so I had to forgo wearing it for another day. If the damn weatherman could predict the weather accurately I wouldn't be having these problems.

And last, but not least, the baby's bedding is arriving today; so stoked to put all the elements together and see how her bedroom will look. I guess there's an upside to being an adult after all.

Happy Friday to all, have a great weekend!

Just Breathe

I know my posts have been lacking in quality lately, and I do apologize. Been dealing with a load of issues lately. One current problem is that I am now 7 1/2 months pregnant and all of a sudden my insurance coverage was canceled, so have been dealing with that, among other things. Hope to catch a break soon and be back in blogging mode, so bear with me.

And to top it off, these blue boots are falling apart now. That's F21 for you. Maybe I can use it as an excuse to get another pair of boots? Hehe, we'll see.

Little Rooms

During my meanderings through various blogs and websites in search of something to read, something to buy, or something to drool over, I happened across a jewelry site called Little Rooms. I immediately fell in love with the charming and unique creations of Ester Delug, the founder and designer of Little Rooms. I am especially in awe of and anxiously awaiting the release of her "Cryptid" collection, due out on October 28th. Below is a sneak peek; you can be sure that the rest of the collection is equally stunning. I personally am dying to get the Shoe Armor and the Moat Monster 3 Finger Ring- although I doubt I will stop there.

Black Magic Woman

First off, let me just apologize for the quality of these pics. Not pleased at all how they turned out, but was in a hurry and didn't have time to mess with the lighting and stuff.

Anyways, awhile back I had been oogling a long, sheer maxi skirt on the American Apparel website. It came in black but also a gorgeous royal blue. Well, after much deliberation I finally decided to purchase it, only to find out they no longer had it. That's what I get for hesitating. Oh well, I thought, I'll just make one, how hard can it be? Let it be known that I am not one of the magically talented seamstresses who can just whip up creations like nobody's business. First of all, my sis has my sewing machine, so I had to sew every stitch by hand. That alone should have been a sign for me to forget it. But when I'm determined, there's no stopping me. So the end result is this skirt that at first glance looks not to bad....but if you saw it in person you'd be having a laugh. The stitching is incredibly crooked, it's a tad longer in front than in back, and I had to put a lace trim on the bottom to cover up my messy hemming. All in all though, I saved myself money, so beggars can't be choosers, right? I also bought other material at the same time since it was on sale, but I have yet to know what to do with it. But maybe I'll wait until I get my sewing machine back.

Have a great weekend everyone!
