Oh So Black

Too tired to blog... must sleep. And drink orange soda, my newest craving. FYI, this top/dress from H&M is a godsend...comfy and roomy, just what I need now going into almost my sixth month of pregnancy; prepare for the pounds to start piling on.

Wearable Dreams

One of my favorite things about blogging is getting to meet other bloggers and building friendships with them. When I first started blogging, I had the opportunity to meet a fellow blogger named Jesa, of Wearable Dreams. Since then, she and I have traded emails, and if time allows in the future, we hope to do a meet up someday. She is a truly genuine person who is as friendly and down to earth as a girl can get. Oh, and did I mention she has killer style? A cross between romantic and edgy, she flawlessly pulls off any look. Her signature? She always adds a bright pop of color to make her outfits stand out, whether its a turquoise pair of heels or a hot pink flower, she's sure to catch your eye. I recently caught up with her during a break in her hectic schedule and she graciously answered the questions I put forth. Keep reading to learn more about this talented and sweetheart of a person:

Basic info:
Name: Jesa
Age: 24
Location: USA
Occupation: Painter & Musician
Blog: Wearable Dreams

Hi Jesa! Glad I could get a minute of your time, I know you're pretty busy. Let's start with the basic questions everyone usually asks: Who/what/why did you start blogging? Any bloggers you're inspired by?

I first started blogging as a way to keep in touch with loved ones while living in Florence, Italy. I loved it so much that I started a public one, once moving back to the states. I love any kind of street style blog, especially when they cover more than one location.

Wow, I never knew you lived in Florence! And lucky for us you kept blogging! What is your personal style like, and do you have any fashion icons?

My personal style is probably very reflective of my artwork. I love color!

What has your personal blogging experience been like? Any memorable experiences? What do you consider positives and negatives of blogging?

A positive of blogging for me would be being able to connect with other creatives or with people I might not normally bump into. It's seriously serendipity like when I get to meet other creative types (like you). There can be negatives, but nothing that outweighs the positives. So far so good!

I totally agree- let's hope for the best! Any future plans for your blog? Where do you see your blog in the next year or two?

I see my blog incorporating lots of other creative pursuits in the future.

That would be awesome, since you're so talented and artistic! If you could give advice to new bloggers, what would it be?

Be wholeheartedly yourself and if it's not fun, don't do it. Quite cheesy but honest.

Random questions!

Fave food? Eggplant Parmesan
Fave music? Everything! If I have to pick just one, neo soul.
Fave color? Maroon
Fave fashion era? Eh.
Fave movie? Pride and Prejudice
Fave cartoon? Strawberry shortcake from when I was little. I also loved beauty and the beast.

Ok, now let's do a fashion comparison. I'll name two things, you tell me which you prefer better:
Alexander McQueen v. Alexander Wang? McQueen
Gold v. Silver: Both please
Chanel v. Louis Vuitton:
Chanel
Wedge v. Heel: Heel
Designer v. Thrifted: Both please
America's Next Top Model v. Project Runway: Project Runway
Skirts v. pants: Skirts
Kate Moss v. Alexa Chung: Flip a coin
Fashion shows v. Street style: Flip a coin
Oversize purse v. Clutches: Oversize purse
Ashley Olsen v. Mary Kate Olsen: I like both equally, but tend to go with Mary Kate a pinch of an inch more ;)

Thanks so much Jesa! It was a pleasure getting to know more about you, and I'm excited to see what else you come up with in the future!

Thanks for the interview Suzy! Adore you lots :)

Be sure to stop by Jesa's blog, Wearable Dreams! Not only will you be inspired, but you're likely to make a new friend as well.

Running Down A Dream

Went to see my sister yesterday and we took the kids to this huge park down in Santa Rosa. Had a carousel, train, petting zoo, lake, etc, on top of the regular playground equipment. Not to mention a hell of a lot of ducks and squirrels. We spent quite some time feeding the squirrels, but Mike was like freaking Snow White- all the animals were coming to him, and he eventually got a fat little one to crawl into his lap and eat. I bet he would've let him take him home had we thought of it. Later we went to a cool little pizzeria with live jazz music. Just the kind of day you need in the middle of the week.

When The Ride Is Over Will You Do It Again?

I was having kind of a bummer few days, and Mike went out of town for the weekend, so I grabbed Kohl and we did some retail therapy, which helped a little. He and I are the same, in that we get all excited to go the H&M and UO, but we rarely ever find anything to buy for us. This time around, however, I found too many things and had to put some back to save my bank account from being completely depleted. But not before I snagged these super comfortable and versatile harem- sweats type pants. I also got a leopard print sheer dress/top and a black shapeless dress that is also really comfy to wear. I'm all about comfort these days. Although I was not thinking when I decided to wear these shoes for the 6 hours of shopping we did. I was eventually forced to buy flip flops, lest I lose my feet altogether. I got this great turquoise necklace at H&M as well...been very into anything tribal, southwestern, etc.

These shoes are from Topshop, and again, I was lucky to score a pair as these were sold out as well. Even Kohl got lucky at UO and found some tees for him to bare his muscles in. Later we met up with our friend Brandy for a fattening Mexican feast. And of course, I always carry my camera on me, but forget to take pics when it counts. Go figure.

I Go Out Walkin' After Midnight

Does this blouse say "maternity" or what? But it's one of my faves. It's an old pajama top I thrifted awhile back. I love the vintage, romantic feel it evokes. Got these Jessica Simpson platforms (I know, right?) awhile ago, but have been wearing them sparingly, because me + 6" heels + pregnant belly = faceplant, which would not be good for me or the baby. Had no idea these shoes were so popular until I looked online to do a price comparison...luckily I scored a hard- to- get pair, although I wanted black but they were sold out.

Also wearing my favorite (fake) leather shorts....kinda bummed because apparently my ass has gotten bigger, because if you could see up close you'd notice the shorts are not zipped at all. I'm slowly running out of things to wear!

And last, but not least, below is my entry for Chictopia's Jeffrey Campbell "My Way" shoe contest. Winner gets an interview with the creative director of JC, a pair of their winning design, a pair of JC shoes, and their shoes get sold at Akira.com. So if you have a Chictopia account, and you like my design, please visit the page to vote for me (click on the picture below.

Lavender Scribbles & Bachman's Sparrow

I recently had the pleasure stumbling across Avi Jacob's blog, Lavender Scribbles and was blown away by what I saw. She is extremely talented with pen and watercolor (and I'm sure other mediums as well). I just had to ask her to create some portraits for my own sake. She happily obliged and very quickly produced the following portraits. Please be sure to stop by her blog and show her some love. She is very talented and I keep checking back to see what other treasures she has created.

*UPDATE: Avi also mentioned she is taking requests, so be sure to visit her blog to contact her!

I was also contacted recently for an interview with the lovely Maria at Bachman's Sparrow. You can read the interview here. although I must warn you, I was half asleep when I answered the questions, so I wasn't exactly riveting. But Maria is a sweetheart and her blog is full of inspiration and great DIY's, so it was a pleasure to be interviewed by her. If you want to exchange links or do an interview with her, all you have to do is ask her. Be sure to stop by her blog and say hi. And thanks again to these wonderful ladies!
