Chop Shop

Sweater- Cheap Monday; Shorts, tights, rings- F21; Platforms- Jessica Simpson

Once again I have managed to add another leopard print piece to my wardrobe, this time being these shorts from Forever 21's Twist line. Honestly though, I didn't realize they were leopard print until closer inspection showed otherwise, which of course sealed the deal and I had to get them. I'm also wearing my floppy sloppy sweater from Cheap Monday, the one which prompted my father in law to say, "Do you know you have holes in the sleeves?" Men. Some of them just don't understand fashion. But that brings me to an interesting topic. We women are actually quite ridiculous in that we will shell out money on items with holes or tears, so long as it's intentional, but would never pay full price on something that had a rip that didn't belong there. Take my sweater for instance: both armpits have holes in them which are unraveling already, much to my dismay, and although you can't see them, it bothers me. Unlike the glaringly obvious cuts in the sleeves, which I like. Go figure.

I'm wearing eyeshadow and mascara- not something I often do

I took photos in the shop again today, but not by choice. I had originally planned to take them outdoors in a secluded spot I frequent sporadically. The weather was nice and the sun was glowing so I planned on taking advantage of it, but unfortunately my spot was occupied by the out of work miscreants that this town seems infested with. Then I headed to a backup spot, which was also beautiful and speckled with wildflowers, only to be intruded on by the so called owner of the land, who proceeded to watch me with a creepy shit-eating grin on his face and asked if I wanted him to take a picture of me in the field. Yeah. I'm pretty sure I know what kind of photos he wanted to take. Douchebag. This town is full of them. Thank goodness for our shop which happens to be a photo worthy and doesn't come with leering pervs. The motorcycle I'm sitting on is one of my faves (likely because it's black and gold); I even made the leather seat I'm sitting on. However, the gigantic spider in the shift knob scares the crap out of me; I bravely stood next to it for photos, only to jump every time I looked down and saw it by my hand. The things I do to get a good shot.

I'm also featured on MTV's Style blog this week! How awesome is that? Check it out here: THANKS MTV!!

Changes

Today's post is the combined effort of Mike and I. I recently purchased a new lens, hence the better quality photos. Mike asked to take my photos, and although we usually differ on opinion, I thought it was a cool that he wanted to be involved, so we went into our freezing shop to take pics in his '38 hot rod. The first two are his, to give him his due. He did a pretty good job, considering he had a new lens to adjust to, but I am fairly picky so I ended up taking more photos myself, much to his disappointment. However, I will recruit him again for future posts, as I enjoyed the time together. I also liked his attention to detail- telling me to stick my butt out, moving my hair over my shoulder- made me feel like I was modeling for real. Except that I sleep with the photographer and don't get paid. Oh, and you don't want to be behind me when I bend over in these pants- I put plumbers to shame.

ps. did you notice the new layout? I got rid of all the clutter and enlarged the photos. thoughts?

Gypsy Travels

Spent the weekend down in Santa Rosa with my sister, Kohl and my sister's niece, Angel. Ate fattening pasta and pizza, scouted out an awesome vintage/thrift store (where I scored this burgundy velvet maxi skirt, among other things) and basically accomplished nothing important. I love how Santa Rosa is such an artsy town, and you can find randomly placed sculptures and hear playing music wherever you go. More pics to follow later.

Frustration Breeds Indecision

Blazer and Shirt- thrifted; Sequin leggings- Marshalls; Boots- Sam Edelman; Cross Necklace- F21

Being sleep deprived and at the constant need of a newborn baby has taken it's toll on my creativity and inspiration. I've done about three different outfit shoots the last couple days, only to decide not to post them- either because I decided I didn't like the outfit, the pictures weren't good enough, or because of some other randomly decided reason. Finally I just decided to post something for the sake of having something to post. I decided to wear wear my sequin leggings to get me motivated, but due to having nowhere to go, I kept the rest of the outfit casual. Kinda like how it turned out. Really needing new locations to shoot photos though, as my backyard is getting a bit monotonous. Wish I had myself a photographer like some other bloggers....not that my husband hasn't offered, but we tend to differ on creative aspects. May have to take him up on it though, before the shrubbery and bricks of my yard drive me insane from redundancy.

Thunderhead

Coat- BB Dakota; Blouse- Diane Von Furstenberg; Boots- Dollhouse

Best.coat.ever. The minute I laid eyes on it I knew I had to have it. I originally found it for $128 on both Urban Outfitters and Nasty Gal's websites, but being the thrifty person I am, I always do price comparisons to get the best deal. Not that I wouldn't have forked over the money, because I love the coat that much...but I still like to get a deal when I can. And as luck would have it, I just so happened to find it for $109 at LuLus.com. They offered free shipping over $75, and I had a 20% discount code, bringing my total to $94...plus since they're located in Chico, a mere 45 minutes from me, my package arrived the next day. It pays to shop around. It also comes in a more subtle black and blue, but the main attraction for me, other than the huge fur trimmed hood, amazing print and extreme coziness, is the color combo of browns, orange and green. This is definitely a coat that I can hang on to for quite some time. FYI, Lulu's is now sold out of the coat, and so is UO, but you can still get it at Nasty Gal's site.

I think someone is due for a dye job, no? Considering going back to the bangs as well. We shall see.

Risky Business

Blazer, shorts- F21; Horse tank- thrifted; Tights-Betsy Johnson; Shoes- Kelsi Dagger; Handbag- Nicole Lee

Ever have one of those days where you can't seem to put together an outfit? Today was one of those days for me. I'm constantly coming up with outfits in my head at random moments, but then when it's time to actually get dressed, I can't remember any of them, or else they don't turn out the way they did in my head. So today when I was in a hurry to get out the door, I somehow came up with this edgy-business-prep school outfit at the last second. Totally unplanned random pieces, yet they somehow came together somewhat cohesively. Maybe I should stop planning outfits ahead of time. On another note, I'm completely infatuated with my new handbag. Looks expensive and chic, but I got it at Marshall's- I'm thrifty like that. Pardon my tired eyes and pale face...still lacking in the sleep department.

And of course I have to end this post with an adorable picture of Lia. Yeah, she's a keeper :)
